the one thing that has stuck with me every day since my English teacher told me it in middle school is:
"When referring to someone, always say who they are before anything else about them, because being a person always comes first"
Instead of saying “the mentally ill man,” say “the man with a mental illness”
Putting someone’s characteristics (especially negative ones) before them is dehumanizing and rude. Don’t do it.
she didn’t say ‘because i am the best woman there was!’
she doesn’t claim to be ‘not like other women’
she doesn’t villify other women and suggest that she’s an exception
she calls dat shit out
augustus waters 24/7 pretends to smoke unlit cigarettes as a metaphor if i knew someone like that not smacking him would take literally all of my self control
Nobody said it was easy
No one ever said it would be this hard
still upset that the films never acknowledge that Peeta loses a limb in the first arena and goes through the Quarter Quell with a prosthetic leg
or that Katniss has suffered permanent hearing loss in one of her ears and now requires a hearing aid
or, you know, the Avoxes
because, you know, why show disabled people doing things
i hate when ppl are actually really prepared for a test. Like, who do u think you are? Someone who actually has their life together? that is not acceptable
